Books serve so many functions: They are sources for our research, companions for our pleasure, and shared experiences for our community. They take us to other worlds, teach us about life and explain mysteries, help us through tough times, and make us laugh and cry. There are children’s books that accomplish all of these purposes, plus something equally important: They grow readers. Good children's books help children fall in love with books and the power of the printed page, which help them navigate through school and life.
